5 out of 5 stars Great travel mug!   September 4, 2010

This insulate mug was a present to my boyfriend.

I had the smaller tea tumbler version of this (Thermos Nissan 12-Ounce Stainless-Steel Tea Tumbler with Infuser), that I bought at Teavana, and we were both very impressed by how long the tea stayed hot (up to 6 hours) and how cold stuff stayed icy (we tested it one morning with ice + liquid and there was still ice left in the evening - amazing for hot summer days!). The only downside was the size, quite small for the daily tea/coffee intake.

So I decided to give him a bigger mug, more suitable for his coffee needs. He loved it!! Again, LOVED IT!! It does not leak, it keeps things very hot (possibly even longer than the 12-ounce tea thermos) and you can use it with one hand only! What else can I say? It is amazing!

If I have to compare the two insulated mugs that we have, I'd say that I prefer this product (16-ounce), even if both are outstanding. Reasons?

1) It is less risky to get burned because you have to drink from the right side or you'll have the cap in your face. With the 12-ounce one if you don't pay attention you drink from the wrong side and spill the HOT liquid on your face
2) Handless and fast to open!
3) Larger volume

I would never stop using the Nissan Tea tumbler, because it is so cool to make good quality tea with the twist top infuser, but for coffee or cold beverages the 16-ounce one is definitely better.

So far, this is the best purchase on Amazon.
No questions: 5 stars. 10 if I could.

5 out of 5 stars Closing in on two years with this great mug   August 31, 2010

This fall will be my second anniversary with two of these mugs. My wife and I use these 5 days a week minus a couple of weeks of vacation. We've never had any problems that weren't our own fault and that was only at the beginning and that was just a slight over fill. As others have posted, it keeps things hot. We only drink coffee out of these so that's all I can comment on. They get filled at 7 AM every morning. Sometimes I've been too busy to drink my coffee until later in the morning or I finish it mid afternoon and it's still either hot or very warm. I can drink it at 4:30 on my way home from work and it's still nice and warm. You really have to clean these with a bottle brush. Start using a bottle brush after the first time you use it or the coffee builds up on the inner walls and you can't get it off. Also, try not to tighten the lid by the flip top. Tighten from just below the flip top or you risk misaligning the rubber nipple on the flip top and it could leak a little. You're also putting a lot of pressure on the hinge and lathcing mechanism by tightening it from the flip top so you might as well protect your investment and not do it that way. If something ever happened to this travel mug, I would buy another one immediately. Luckily my local grocery store (Wegmans) has these in stock. This is the only good travel mug I've ever used.

3 out of 5 stars Good thermos but leaks ever so slightly   August 29, 2010

This appears to be a well built, solidly made thermos. It does a great job in keeping my coffee hot. Even after over 5 hours, my coffee is still very hot. You can drink directly from this thermos, and it is comfortable to hold. The only issue I have with it is that I notice a drop or two of coffee on the outside of the bottle when I arrive at work with it. I do tighten it properly, so I'm wondering if the o-ring may have an issue. A disappointing thing to happen with a new purchase, but not the end of the world. I put this thermos inside a large ziplock bag to prevent any leakage into my bag on my commute to work. Clearly I should not have to do this. FWIW, I have another stainless 16 oz thermos that I bought to use to bring lunch to work. That one does not leak at all, but it does not do a great job in keeping foods either hot or cold. So I've encountered a issue with both of these purchases of Nissan products. Buyer beware.

5 out of 5 stars Great, but not quite perfect   August 23, 2010

This mug does all that it says it does. It keeps my coffee hot for hours and hours, and has been totally leak-proof except for one time when I filled it a little too high and the liquid got into the space where the lid screws on and eventually dribbled out a little bit, but that was my own fault. My only complaint is about the flip top. When I'm driving, I would much rather have something that twists open with one hand, and doesn't obstruct my vision so much when I'm taking a sip. For this reason, I usually wait until I get to work to drink my coffee. Also, you can't push the button and let the lid fly open or coffee may fly off of the blue stopper inside the lid. As long as you open it gently, you won't have a problem. That also makes it a little more difficult to deal with while driving. But overall, this is an awesome mug which I would highly recommend it.

I use the Thermos Nissan to keep my creamer/milk cold for my hot tea that I drink all day at work. I could not be happier with the container. It washes up very easily and the shape of the drink area also does great for pouring!
